Oldham Picks: Oldham Athletic V Barrow | Predictions

News February 22, 2021

The Latics welcome Barrow to Boundary Park tomorrow night as they go head to head in the EFL League Two.

Written by Tom Pearce, Oldham Picks Predictor (@tompearce97)

On Saturday, Harry Kewell’s side spent most of the second half with 10 men but they still come out with a point, drawing 1-1 with Tranmere away from home.

Michael Jolley’s side find themselves sitting lowly in 23rd position following another loss at the weekend, losing out 2-1 at home to Morecambe.

A win for the Latics could move them up five spots and into 12th place if results go their way.

This will be the 52nd meeting between the two sides, the first coming in 1935 in which Barrow come out 3-0 winners.

The two sides have met just three times in the last 50 years, including the reverse fixture earlier this season which Oldham won 4-3 in a seven goal thriller.

 In Focus

1. Will Oldham Athletic beat Barrow? Yes

There are certainly positives that the Latics can take from the weekend having got a point against a strong Tranmere side despite being a man down for almost half of the game.

That draw meant that they have managed just the two wins from their last nine league games.

The thing is, Barrow’s current form really isn’t great having lost in each of their last four games.

They have also lost all but three of their 13 games on the road this season.

2. Will Oldham score in the first half? Yes

Kewell’s side have actually scored more goals in the second half than they have in the first when playing at Boundary Park.

The Latics have managed to score in the first 45 minutes in three of their last five home games.

Meanwhile, Barrow have conceded at least one goal in the first period in each of their last four games.

With 10 goals conceded in the first halves of away games, they are averaging 0.77 goals against per first period.

3. Will Oldham score in the second half? Yes

As previously said, Oldham have scored more goals in the second 45 minutes having found the net 13 times in 14 second halves at Boundary Park.

They have also managed to score in the second half in five of their last six league games.

Barrow have conceded fewer goals in the second 45 minutes of away games than they have in the first, albeit by one.

That means they are averaging 0.69 goals against per second half when on the road.

4. How many goals will Oldham Athletic score? 2

The Latics certainly haven’t struggled to find the back of the net this season, especially in recent times as they have 10 goals in their last five games.

At Boundary Park, Kewell’s side have found the net 21 times, averaging 1.5 goals scored per home game.

It’s also not unusual for Oldham to score exactly two when at home, having done that in 43% of their games on home soil this season.

The visitors have kept just one clean sheet on the road whilst conceding 19 goals from 13 games. That’s an average of 1.46 goals against per away game.

5. How many goals will Oldham Athletic concede? 1

Whilst Oldham have no trouble scoring goals, the same can’t be said about keeping the ball out of their own net.

With no clean sheets at Boundary Park this season, they have conceded 26 goals from 15 games, averaging 1.86 goals against per game.

The thing is, Barrow don’t tend to score many goals when on the road.

In fact, they have scored just 12 goals from 13 games. That’s an average of 0.92 goals scored per game.

6. How many saves will Ian Lawlor make? 2

Barrow have tended to test the opposition goalkeeper’s quite frequently, hitting the target on 108 times this season. That’s an average of four shots on goal per game.

Recently though, they have really struggled to create chances. They have managed just 10 shots on target in their last six games, not getting four shots on goal in any of those games.

Meanwhile, with 75 saves this season, Lawlor is currently averaging 3.06 saves per game.

Quickfire

  • Will Conor McAleny score? Yes
  • Will Davis Keillor-Dunn assist a goal? No
  • How many shots on target will Oldham Athletic have? 4+
  • How many corners will Oldham Athletic be awarded? 4+
  • How many shots on target will Dylan Bahamboula have? 2
  • How many tackles will Marcel Hilßner make? 1
