Oldham Athletic welcome Colchester United to Boundary Park this Friday night, as they go head to head in League Two.
Written by Tom Pearce, Oldham Picks Predictor (@tompearce97)
This will be the 51st meeting between the two sides, with the first coming in 1961, with the game ending 2-2.
The last 10 fixtures have been even affairs most of the time, with just four games ending with a winner.
That includes the reverse fixture from earlier this season, a six goal thriller, which ended as a 3-0 draw.
How will Friday’s game play out, though?
Oldham Athletic Team News & Injuries
Keith Curle is unlikely to make any changes to the side who played so well last time out.
Oldham are still without Zach Dearnley as he remains sidelined, however, Dylan Bahamboula, Davis Keillor-Dunn and Conor McAleny have all formed a strong partnership with each other going forward.
Colchester United Team News & Injuries
The visitors are still without Omar Sowunmi which leaves them with a bit of a centre back crisis, but Hayden Mullins is likely to name an unchanged starting XI.
Oldham Athletic Form
The Latics put Crawley Town to the sword in the space of seven minutes on Monday, scoring three goals either side of half time.
The game ended 4-1, meaning Oldham had won their first three points in three games.
Curle’s side are struggling with consistency at the moment, winning two, drawing two and losing two in their last six games. That means they’re 10th in the form table.
Colchester United Form
Colchester were denied a win on Monday after they conceded a goal in the dying minutes to draw 1-1 against Barrow.
They’ve struggled to get three points recently, failing to win in any of their last six games, meaning they find themselves in 20th in the form table.
The U’s are actually unbeaten in their last three away games, however, they have all ended as 0-0 draws.
Our Picks For Oldham Picks – Oldham Athletic V Colchester United
1. Will Oldham Athletic score in the first half? Yes
The Latics scored two goals in as many first-half minutes on Monday, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them find the net in the opening 45 on Friday.
With 14 goals from 20 matches at Boundary Park, they are currently averaging 0.55 goals scored per first period at home.
It won’t be easy, though, as Colchester have kept a clean sheet in the first half in 70% of their games on the road.
2. Will Oldham Athletic score in the second half? Yes
Dylan Bahamboula scored Oldham’s fourth of the game and their second of the closing 45 minutes.
They have also found the net in the second half in 55% of their games at Boundary Park this season.
Colchester have a much worse defensive record in the second 45 compared to the first when on the road.
With 19 goals conceded from 20, they are currently averaging 0.95 goals against per second period when playing away.
3. How many goals will Oldham Athletic score? 2
It was the four goals for Curle’s side on Monday, however, it’s unlikely they will bag as many on Friday night.
They are no strangers to scoring exactly two goals either, doing so in 40% of their home games this season.
Meanwhile, Colchester have conceded more goals when playing away compared to when they play at home.
They have conceded 29 goals in 20 matches, which is an average of 1.45 goals against per game on the road.
4. How many goals will Oldham Athletic concede? 1
Colchester haven’t scored many goals when playing away this campaign, but Oldham’s defensive record at home isn’t great reading.
The Latics have kept just one clean sheet, whilst conceding 35 goals from 20 games, averaging 1.75 goals against per game.
If Oldham were playing against a more prolific side, it could be more, but Colchester are far from it.
They have found the net just 10 times on the road this season, which means they’re averaging a goal every other away game.
5. How many shots on target will Dylan Bahamboula have? 1
Bahamboula had four attempts on Monday, with all of them hitting the target and one of them finding the net.
He has now had 54 shots this campaign, with 18 of them hitting the target. That’s an average of 0.73 shots on target per 90.
6. Will Nicky Adams score? No
The right winger is yet to find the net this season, and it’s no surprise as he doesn’t test the goalkeeper very often.
He has had just eight shots in the league this campaign, with half of them hitting the target.
The will be the 15th time Adams will have come up against Colchester, scoring three in the previous 14 against them.
- How many shots on target will Conor McAleny have? 2
- Will Callum Whelan score? No
- Will Dylan Fage assist a goal? No
- How many tackles will Carl Piergianni make? 3
- How many saves will Laurie Walker make? 2
- How many tackles will Harrison Clarke make? 0
