News April 16, 2021

Oldham Athletic face Morecambe at the Mazuma Stadium this weekend as they go head to head in League Two.

Written by Tom Pearce, Oldham Picks Predictor (@tompearce97)

This will be just the eighth meeting between the two sides, the first coming in 2008 in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, with the game finishing 1-1.

They have met twice already this campaign, once in the League Cup and once in the league. It was Morecambe who came out on top on both occasions, winning 1-0 and 3-2 respectively.

How will Saturday’s game play out?

Oldham Athletic Team News & Injuries

Kyle Jameson was forced off through injury last week but apart from that, Keith Curle will have the same pool of players to choose from.

Morecambe Team News & Injuries

Morecambe will be without Jordan Slew after he suffered a season ending injury by fracturing his tibula.

Oldham Athletic Form

The Latics thrashed Colchester United last time out, beating them 5-2 at Boundary Park last Friday. That meant that they had won back to back games.

From their last six matches, they have accumulated 10 points which means they currently sit in seventh place in the form table.

They did win in their last game on the road, however that was just their first win from their last six away games.

Morecambe Form

Morecambe increased their gap from sixth place on Tuesday night as they defeated Scunthorpe 3-2 at home.

They have racked up 10 points from their last six games, meaning they find themselves in ninth in the form table.

The Shrimps have a good recent home record as well, losing just one of their seven at the Mazuma Stadium.

Our Picks For Oldham Picks – Morecambe V Oldham Athletic

In Focus

1. Will Oldham Athletic score in the first half? Yes

The Latics have struggled to find the net in the opening 45 minutes this season.

In fact, they have just 10 from 20 on the road, which is an average of 0.5 goals scored per first half when playing away.

The thing is, Morecambe have kept a clean sheet in the second period in just 45% of their home games this campaign.

2. Will Oldham Athletic score in the second half? Yes

Whilst the home sides defensive record is better in the closing 45, Oldham’s goal-scoring record is also better.

With 24 goals from 20, they are currently averaging 1.2 goals scored per second period on the road.

It won’t be easy, though, as Morecambe have kept a clean sheet in the second half in 65% of their home games this season.

3. How many goals will Oldham Athletic score? 2

Whilst The Latics were on fire in front of goal last week, it’s going to be a much tougher test this weekend.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see them score exactly two goals, though, having done so in 65% of their away games this campaign.

They will have to work hard for it, however, as Morecambe are more defensively sound when they play at home.

They have conceded 24 goals from 20 matches, which is an average of 1.2 goals against per game at the Mazuma Stadium.

4. How many goals will Oldham Athletic concede? 2

It’s not secret that Oldham haven’t been the best when it comes to keeping the ball out of the net this season.

They conceded twice against Colchester and it wouldn’t be a shock for it to happen again on Saturday.

Morecambe haven’t scored exactly two goals at home this campaign, though. In fact, they have done it just three times.

5. Will Conor McAleny score? Yes

The versatile midfielder has been very good in front of goal this season, finding the net on 17 occasions.

In the league, he has scored 13 times and has actually scored three in his last two outings. However, before those goals, he had failed to score for almost three months.

McAleny does have a good record against Morecambe as well, scoring two in two appearances against them.

6. Will Davis Keillor-Dunn score? No

Keiller-Dunn has 11 goals to his name this campaign, with 10 of them coming in league games.

He managed to score two of those in his last game, his first goals since the 4-2 loss to Cambridge last month.

This will be just the second time he will have come up against Morecambe, but he failed to score in the previous game against them.

  • How many shots on target will Alfie McCalmont have? 0
  • How many shots on target will Marcel Hilßner have? 0
  • Will Callum Whelan assist a goal? No
  • How many tackles will Kyle Jameson make? 1
  • How many tackles will Cameron Borthwick-Jackson make? 1
  • How many saves will Laurie Walker make? 4+
